This is a very popular area as it receives more than a million tourists each year.
It is a protected area since 1990 and belongs to the Mojave Desert, a very arid environment but full of a diversity of fauna and flora. The Mojave Desert is a 40,000 square kilometre expanse of desert that spills over into Arizona and Nevada.
Red Rock Canyon is a series of red sandstone walls, the highest point being Bridge Mountain. As previously mentioned, the fauna and flora of the area are very diverse and offer the possibility of seeing various animals such as the majestic golden eagle and a diversity of reptiles such as the desert tortoise and snakes: a real zoo in its natural state. You can go on a kind of safari in a 4x4 jeep or even by bike.
This is a great opportunity to take advantage of the hikes and excursions in the desert. The red rock of the walls and cliffs, the blue of the sky and the green of the flora make up a landscape that is as atypical as it is breathtaking.
During your excursions, you will also have the chance to step back in time and find petroglyphs in the rocks: drawings engraved at the time of the Amerindian occupation. These can be seen near the Turtlehead Peak Trail.
The Ice Box Canyon Trail, which follows a beautiful waterfall, is also a popular trail for tourists.
During your stay, you can also pass through Willow Springs, a green oasis where you can relax and contemplate nature.
Don't forget to capture the beautiful scenery and sunsets that Red Rock Canyon has to offer!
It all depends on when you go to Red Rock Canyon. If you want to enjoy the warmth and sunshine, June to September is the best time.
The rest of the year it's pretty cold, especially in winter.
Entrance to Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area is normally charged at about $15 per vehicle. The "ticket" to enter the reserve is valid for one day.
